2021 Transfer Updates for UC Berkeley Haas School of Business

The bachelors degree in business administration at UC Berkeley’s Haas School of Business remains a popular – and still very competitive – transfer goal for many California community college students.

A recent letter emailed from the Haas undergraduate program’s director of admissions is chock-full of important information regarding the admissions process for students interested in applying to this major. It’s provided, in part, below:

Envision Haas – Transfer Outreach Program

Now entering our fourth year, the Haas Undergraduate Program in collaboration with our Haas Business School Association (HBSA) is proud to share our Fall 2021 Envision Haas schedule.

Envision Haas is an admissions outreach program that aims to provide admissions information to our growing number of California Community College transfer applicants. Each Envision Haas session includes an admissions info session and transfer student led panel. All Envision Haas sessions will be conducted virtually via Zoom for the Fall 2021 semester.

This Fall semester, we will be conducting two sessions per month. Interested students and counselors can sign-up via the Zoom registration links posted on the Outreach & Admission Events website linked above.

Haas Supplement Q&A Webinar – Thursday, January 20, 2022, 5:00PM-6:00PM PST

In addition to the UC Application, transfer applicants are required to submit the Haas supplemental application by January 31st. Current applicants with questions about the Haas Supplement should join us during this live chat. The Zoom registration link will be posted on the Outreach & Admission Events website.

Application Update – Interviews

Previously, admission interviews were by invitation only. This year, all Haas applicants will have the opportunity to submit a video recording of themselves answering provided interview questions. The interview will be submitted along with the Haas supplemental application. The video interview is not mandatory but strongly recommended.

What should your students do if they are interested in applying to the Haas Undergraduate Program?

1. Speak to a Haas Advisor.

We strongly advise prospective students to connect with an advisor. For quick questions, students can call us at 510-642-1421 or email uginfo@haas.berkeley.edu. Haas advisors are also available for virtual appointments on Mondays & Tuesdays from 1:30pm to 4:30pm and Wednesdays & Thursdays from 9:00am to 12:30pm. Please visit https://haas.berkeley.edu/undergrad/admissions/pre-admission-advising/ for more information and to schedule an appointment.

2. Get to know the business major.

Encourage your students to attend a virtual Envision Haas session to learn more about the business major.

3. Review the articulation agreement.

California community college students interested in applying to the Haas Undergraduate Program must follow the most current Articulation Agreement. This information can be found on assist.org by selecting the community college, then UC Berkeley, then the Business Administration major.

4. Ensure Eligibility

All applicants must meet the minimum eligibility requirements. This information is summarized on the Berkeley Haas website and the articulation agreement on assist.org.

Every year a significant number of our transfer applicants are denied because they fail to show planned completion of these requirements.

Here are a few of the most common reasons for ineligibility:

  • Failure to complete all requirements. All required courses (100% of admission requirements) must be completed by the end of the Spring term prior to starting at the Haas School of Business. If a student is missing one required course they will be considered ineligible for admission. Required courses cannot be taken during the summer term after the application is submitted.
  • IGETC: IGETC is not sufficient to fulfill requirements for the business major. All applicants must meet the minimum eligibility requirements outlined in the articulation agreement on assist.org.
  • 5-year rule: All prerequisites must be completed within 5 years prior to starting at the Haas School of Business. For example, students planning to start in Fall 2022 cannot use prerequisites taken prior to Fall 2017. Prerequisites taken prior to Fall 2017 must be repeated.

5. Complete the Application Process.

Students interested in applying to the business major at UC Berkeley must complete both phases of the application process.

  • Phase 1: Submit a complete UC Application by November 30th
  • Phase 2: Submit a complete Haas Supplement by January 31, 2022.

In addition to the UC Application, transfer applicants are required to submit a supplemental application. Applicants will be sent an email by UC Berkeley’s Office of Undergraduate Admissions during the first week of January with information about the Supplement. The Supplement must be submitted online and includes the Haas self-reported academic record, an additional essay, a resume template, and video interview.

Applicants who fail to submit a complete UC application and a complete Haas Supplement will not be considered for admission.
