Hi there! I’m Andy, and as one of the contributors here at Career Action Now, it’s required that I love talking about career planning. Of course I’m joking about the requirement part. But I’m not joking about the fact that I do really love to talk about purposeful career planning. Fortunately, I have a full time job at a college where I get to teach career exploration courses, deliver career-related workshops, and advise students on career and academic matters. I also started and maintain the college’s career center blog. It’s no surprise then, when I tell you that I basically love my job.

I’m thoroughly satisfied with my career, and I strongly believe that my current job, going on my fifth year now, is the one that I intend to stick with until I retire from my working life. What a thing to say! But it’s been quite the winding road to get to where I’m at today. (To read about my work history, just click here.)

My current career in the education field is my third career and likely to be my last as I mentioned already. I originally believed that I was headed for law school, as I worked at a law office for 2 years coming out of college. I then switched careers when I got the opportunity to work at a high tech company, but I lasted for about 2 years before switching gears (and careers) yet again. Career changes are usually tough, and changing careers for me did have its share of challenges, but I also learned a lot about not only myself but about the world of work and how to go about figuring out a career path.

In hindsight, I remember that I was always interested in education as a career path, even before high school. But I never took action on it until many years later. I strongly believe that I would have benefited greatly had I connected with someone (or a something like a blog ;) ) that had some great career advice to offer me. I sort of just drifted along, either accepting jobs that practically dropped onto my lap or thinking that I knew what I wanted to do, without really delving too deeply about what I really, really wanted to pursue as a career. And I can’t even get into right now (it’ll take too long!) about my indecision in college with trying to figure out a major. Suffice it to say that I changed my mind many, many times, and the accompanying stress eventually took its toll on me.

But here I am, a very fortunate person in that I have a job that I am truly passionate about. One indication that I love my job is that I literally look forward to going to work. Even after 5 years in my current job, I still can’t wait to wake up in the mornings on work days.

And now, as someone who is wildly content with their work, and as a professional who has studied purposeful career planning and is still excited to learn as much as possible about everything career related, I look forward to sharing the best career-related information and advice that I come across, as well as share my thoughts based on what I’ve learned, and continue to learn, from my own career journey.

I believe that it’s quite possible to successfully plan your career, and I think it’s better the sooner one starts planning. But getting started is a challenge for many people. If you’re in this boat, then I hope that you run across some insights here at Career Action Now that’ll provide that jump start to your own career planning endeavor.

So that’s a little bit more about me career-wise. But I don’t want this blog to be a one-way street where we do all the talking and writing. Please leave comments after any of our posts and send any of us questions or feedback. If you enjoy our posts, then please subscribe to our blog or bookmark us.

Thanks for reading!
