Thanks for your interest in my work history! For the quick and abridged version, you can check out my public profile page at Linkedin. The following is the longer and more detailed version. Enjoy. :)

Current Job

I work as a counselor at a California community college where much of my work consists of providing academic, transfer, career, and personal counseling to a diverse group of students and community members. I also have the opportunity teach classes on career and life planning and college success, as well as deliver workshops on career-related topics like resume writing, interviewing, and networking. I’m so lucky to have a job that I truly enjoy. I would love to see as many people as possible also truly enjoy doing what they do for a living.

Past Jobs

Before my current job, I worked for five years as a career counselor at a large state university. In addition to delivering numerous presentations and conducting many workshops on career-related topics, I provided career counseling and advising for students and community members on career-related matters like choosing a major, finding an internship, finding a job, creating effective resumes, preparing for interviews, and making a career transition. For this position, I completed a graduate degree in educational counseling, and before getting a full-time position there, I worked there as a volunteer, graduate assistant, intern, and a part-time employee. While enjoying my work as a full-time university career consultant, I took on a number of outside opportunities, including teaching educational counseling classes for a graduate counseling program on some weekday evenings and weekends. That’s where my love for teaching in a classroom really became apparent.

Prior to working as a university career counselor, I worked for a couple of years as a supervisor for a high-tech manufacturing company, starting off as an administrative assistant and working my way up. The department I supervised had upwards of sixty people ranging in ages from 18 to over 60.

Prior to this experience, I worked for a couple of years as a paralegal at a law office for an attorney who practiced in a variety of legal fields. I started off as an entry-level, part-time legal assistant.

In college, I volunteered and worked part time in a bunch of positions working for a variety of organizations and departments, doing mainly administrative tasks like data entry. I’ve also worked as a temp packaging camera film and have had my share of part-time work, ranging from clerical and office work to working at a movie theater as an usher, ticket taker, and in the concession stands.

I’ve learned a great deal about myself and the world of work from each of my past work related experiences, and I continue to learn something new and interesting every day in my current one.

There’s more to me than just my current work and my work history. Though I thoroughly enjoy my job and the work that I do, having a life outside of my work is vital to me. That said, one of the main activities that energizes me during my free time is… working on Career Action Now. Awww…
