Creating a Personal Branding Lesson Plan for a College Career Exploration Class
A new quarter starts up next week, and I plan to introduce a personal branding unit for my two career exploration classes.
I have been teaching career exploration courses at the college level now for the past five years. I’ve certainly discussed the importance of learning how to employ effective career development and self-marketing strategies – ideally throughout one’s college career well before graduating – but I never asked personal branding-related questions like:
- Do you know what personal branding is?
- What is your personal brand?
- Do you know what your online image is like? Why does it matter?
- Can an effective personal branding strategy help you with your career planning?
I briefly introduced the personal branding concept to my career exploration classes towards the end of this last quarter and received positive feedback from the students. They appreciated being introduced to it and the ensuing tips and strategies on establishing and protecting their personal brand.
I’ve learned so much about personal branding in recent months, and I look forward to introducing a more fully thought-out lesson plan.
