The application window for this year’s Summer Community College Premedical Program hosted by Stanford University is currently open. The deadline is March 1, 2021.

More, in part, from the program website:

The Stanford Summer Community College Premedical Program (SSCCPP) targets current community college students considered low-income and/or underrepresented in medicine, providing exposure to medicine and health through topics in health disparities, leadership challenges in health provision and administration, science success strategies, professional development, clinical exposure, successful preparation for the medical school application process, and postsecondary and graduate/professional school financing.

This program is designed to impact the San Francisco Bay Area and its contiguous counties, promoting the growth and diversity of the health workforce in the region.

Six-Week Residential Program

SSCCPP is typically offered as a six-week residential program, allowing talented and motivated community college students interested in medicine to immerse themselves in the Stanford School of Medicine network through a variety of personal and professional development experiences.

Program Change to be Determined

Due to restrictions instituted by the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic, last year’s 2020 summer program was offered as a virtual experience. No determination has been made at this time regarding this summer 2021. We will continue to update the website as decisions about physical distancing evolve.

If offered as an in-person program, participants will be required to reside on campus for the duration of the program and will be immersed in topic areas, including:

  • Critical reading and research of medical literature
  • Health Activism and Advocacy in Medicine
  • Science preparatory classes (previously anatomy, molecular cellular bio, chemistry)
  • An introduction to the MCAT
  • Academic success and test-taking strategies
  • The medical school admissions and financing process

Additional activities promote:

  • Peer networking
  • Medical student mentorship
  • Clinical shadowing and research opportunity education

Applications and Scholarship

The application cycle is December 1, 2020, 11:59pm through March 1, 2021, 11:59pm.

There is one application for both the premedical and research programs.

If the program is offered in person, selectees will be awarded a scholarship that covers all program expenses, including housing, meals, participation fees and materials.
